"Gekreuzte Geschichten | Historien cruzadas" was an international and interdisciplinary public history project about the experience of exile in Austria and Mexico. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Mexico's protest against the German annexation of Austria, in 1938, our curatorial team invited artists, researchers, and curators from Mexico, Austria, Syria, Iran, Irak, Afghanistan, Turkey, Bulgaria and elsewhere to connect the history of anti-Nazi exile with current experiences of forced migration. The result was a series of exhibitions, public debates, concerts, screenings of short films produced for this project, and finally a book. The physical centre of our activities was the Mexico Square in Vienna.
